Volunteering is a key part of UCLU Drama Society and a great way to be involved in the society.
We volunteer in schools, retirement homes and hospitals with shows and workshops bringing drama to people that otherwise would not be able to be involved in the theatre. Volunteering is incredibly rewarding and really lets you see the influence drama can have upon people and groups.
If you are interesting in working in Theatre in a role linked to Education or Youth Theatre or Drama within the community then becoming a volunteer will give you experience in these areas. It is a lot of fun and everyone has a lot of creative license within the volunteering group. In previous years we have worked with nearby secondary schools throughout the year, each term culminating in a fantastic performance with a great audience turnout.
This year we are hoping to expand our volunteering network to include a touring company formed of UCLU Drama Society members that will create their own piece and tour it around schools.
We are also planning a series of Half Term Inter-Arts workshops that will introduce all areas of the theatre to school children, including technical aspects of a production, as well as producing a Play in a Day with the pupils. We are going to have a packed, fun and rewarding year of Volunteering and hope that everyone will want to be a part of it!
